This is just a quick series of some parking places from my travels on Monday. They're probably not too interesting but I thought they might qualify for a blog post to show places in Portland and Vancouver. The above is at a major medical center in Portland.
Same spot - different angle. Whoever rides that scooter is pretty hard-core. It's there a lot.
A major medical center in Vancouver, WA. The morning was foggy.
Washington State University Vancouver campus.
A school district. A fair amount of workers here either ride or want to ride.
Okay, this was a fun stop in Northwest Portland. It's fun looking at camera gear.
In the parking lot of the photo store I spotted this family vehicle complete with a rendering of Mt. Hood. Honest, I didn't draw that. Just after I took this image the owner and his daughter came out and drove off.
When I came out of the photo store this guy was patiently waiting for his master. It also looks like he could be the get-away driver.
Hope the weather allows you to ride.
I didn't know there was a nice parking lot near pro-photo. I've wanted to go there ever since my co-worker told me about the place. I've avoided it due to being in the big city with all the traffic and parking woes.
ReplyDeleteI believe you when you say you didn't draw on the window...a motorcyclist would have drawn a nice curvy road on the mountain.
Interestingly, I was at SW Washington Medical Center yesterday. There is motorcycle parking by the shelter near Engineering.
ReplyDeleteAt WSU Vancouver I go around the campus and park up the hill at facilities.
At Portland Public Schools I park near where you do. The guy who does the doors and hardware rides an RT as well. He took one an ART class I was teaching last summer.
Fun post!
Kari,
ReplyDeletePro Photo is not real hard to get to. Northwest is not too bad for getting around on a motorcycle/scooter; not like downtown by the river. You might Google-map it and make it a Saturday thing. If I were you I would also tie in a photo op trip to Sauvie Island! The island is on my trip list.
Dan,
I usually go to SW Washington Med. Center but didn't make it there Monday. I went to the old hospital on Main but didn't include the photo.
At WSU I park by facilities too. You probably know the lock guy too. I saw him Monday. And the lock guy at Portland Schools is on my radar. If he rides an RT we're already good friends by default!
Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteI had to go and google it. It's to the west of the 405. I didn't know that. I tried the street view and it looks survivable. I was amused, there was a bike or scooter parked along the street in the street view. Must be a good sign. :)
I haven't been to Sauvie island in years. We've wanted to drag the kayaks up there, but haven't done so yet. I bet it does have some great photo ops.
Let me just say there are a lot of scooters in NW Portland, especially in the summer. :)
ReplyDeleteKayaks at Sauvie Island would be fun... again, especially in the summer. I wouldn't want to fall in this time of year. :)
I worked in Salem Tuesday and a fellow motorcyclist-photographer buff said that Baskett Slough near Dallas is a great spot. Have you been there?
Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteWe've stopped at Baskett Slough viewpoint, and drove through a small access road, but haven't explored it beyond that. I believe there is a trail or trails. Another jewel to explore. :)
We usually go to Ankeny NWR as it's closer.
