A Pause on the Road Today

Along Hwy 214 between Silverton & Mt. Angel, OR

  1. Gorgeous photo! Isn't it funny that the prettiest skies usually come from the most unsettled weather. That's a really nice area to ride.

I like that you let the picture speak for you, I think it pretty well says it all. That doesn't mean I don't like your writing. It's just that sometimes words aren't needed.

  2. Thanks for your comment Kari. Spring definitely has the makings of pretty skies the way showers blow in and out.

You're very observant with your comment about few words. I had more photos about why I went to Silverton but as I started the post I thought nah, it's not interesting.

I'm re-evaluating this blog. Struggling a bit with content. I'm attracted to the photo blog style of less words and more photos. We'll see...

  3. I, too, love those dramatic skies. As to the blog content, that's another story. I could almost just post photos. Then again, I suffer from diarrhea of the keyboard.

Although, if my photos were as good as yours......

  4. Now see, I didn't want you to take my comment that way...
You're allowed to do a photo-only post now and then, but you still have to post some with writing...it's a law or something.

In my best mom voice...Don't go pulling the "not interesting" card. I'm sure that if you chose to post the other pics and comments I would have found it plenty interesting, and I'm sure other readers would too. So just stop with the not interesting stuff!!

Sheesh, both of you now! See the comment above...you're not allowed to stop.

  6. Lovely pic. Sometimes it is just good to stop and appreciate the scenery, especially when clouds are involved.

  7. bluekat,

I don't know. Bobskoot has called my site Musings of a Baby Photographer. What if I started another blog by that name and just posted photos? Nah, I guess that wouldn't work, either. I'd be too busy writing and bragging!

    Thanks for caring!

I've been struggling too thinking that perhaps just a photo and a few words sometimes like Chuck who posts nearly a photo a day, if he feels like it.

you don't know how long it takes to get a video up onto youtube. It takes a few hours to edit, then a few hours to upload. sometimes I have to leave the computer on all night uploading. Posting a few photos and some words is definitely easier.

I was thinking of a rotating schedule, like one longer post with photos (Key West Diary style, without the rants), then perhaps one with few words and a video, followed by a photo or two and a paragraph or two (in rotation), say frequency of 3 posts every 2 weeks and keep all content in ONE place rather than having to maintain multiple blogs.

  9. Wow, I turn my back and everyone takes over! :)

    Dan,
First of all, you don't have diarrhea of the keyboard. You have a gift for weaving together very interesting stories about your life and your life on the bike. The popularity of your blog speaks volumes about your blogging ability. And over these months I've gained a huge amount of respect for people who blog for years. It takes a certain amount of fortitude to do that.

Secondly, thank you for your kind comment!

    Kari,
Your original comment didn't cause me to write what I did. I've been struggling for content for a while and thinking about an adjustment. I really like your comment which brings a smile. :)

I consider myself lightly scolded but if you knew what I was going to post on the Silverton story, you'd agree that it would be boring for most. Thanks for your caring comment! I don't plan on going anywhere just maybe tweaking things a little. :)

    Sonja,
Thank you for stopping by. I always appreciate your comments too!

  10. Bob,
That sounds like a good plan. I'll bet those videos take time, that's another reason I'm a still-photo-guy. No offense, I enjoy your videos and your knowledge in that area. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts.

Your comment made me chuckle. It's almost if you invited us all over to your place for dinner, or a get-together and you were tired and went to bed, but the rest of us stayed behind to continue the party, without you. Of course we would turn off the lights and lock the doors behind us (if we decided to leave).

It must be a struggle keeping two sites going. Bring the photo part back here and just call it something like "Photo Tuesdays" or whatever . . .

  12. Bob,
Your analogy made me chuckle. That's kind of the feeling I had. No problem though, just lock the door when you leave!

The photo blog is really where my heart is. That one I look forward to and don't struggle with, it's this one. I love to ride, I just find it hard to write about it in the quality that the rest of you do. I really enjoy reading everyone's blogs and the best part of course is making new friends. Oh well, it'll all work itself out.

    Thanks Bob.

I find that most people don't like to document the ordinary, they think that no one will be interested in your daily activities, or your commute to work, or to the store.

Those stunning photographs that have perfect light, in exotic locations are sometimes obtained with luck, being in the right place at the right time to be able to capture the scene. Or a perfect, staged photo that appears to be unstaged. I remember the days of 35mm film where you were lucky to get 4 keepers out of 36 shots.

We all strive for that elusive, perfect photo but they are hard to come by, unless you are Chuck and post Nearly a Photo a Day. It took him 30 years to come up with the one he posted today.

Chuck is amazing, and a Pro. We were together on a weekend ride last September and I saw him in action. All of his photos are Keepers.

Take a look at one of my favourite photogs, Quang tuan luong

and go to his gallery of National Parks photos.
