What a Privilege

As I write this the temperature outside is 35 (F).  They say it'll snow tomorrow but we'll see.  Snow or not it's too cold to safely ride, in my humble opinion.

Yesterday morning I rode to a breakfast meeting in light rain at 39 (F).  The photo above is not from yesterday.  I decided to post this one because it reminds me of the delight I get from beginning a day of riding.  What a privilege it is.

At the breakfast meeting I was asked why I ride a motorcycle.  Actually the question was, "Why do you ride a motorcycle at your age?"  I said, "Because it gets in your blood."  I guess there will come a day when I have to stop, but until that day I'm grateful for the experience.

God's speed.

  1. I've only been on a motorcycle twice - but it was exhilerating - freeing and wonderfully fun. I'm glad you get the privilege to enjoy it.

  2. Looks like you might be getting a little snow now Mike! I need to take advantage of our 70 degree weather these days!! We rode last weekend and it was beautiful!!!!

  3. Stacey,
Sounds like there's a motorcycle/scooter in your future. After riding, people are either scared to death or feel like you did. Thank you!

    Eve,
70 degrees these days would be great! Get out there and ride, Eve!

  4. I guess that's an area where I still need to do some character work. If someone said "at your age" to me, I'd invite them behind the barn to show them I can still kick their rear!

  5. Irondad,
Your comment gave me a chuckle, but then so did their question. The older I get I find there's validity to that saying, "you're only as old as you feel." I don't feel my age and I'm thankful to be doing things my dad or older brothers would've never considered. Thanks for your comment!

  6. I've been off the bike for almost a week, and I'm getting antsy. I was hoping it would be cold AND dry so I could ride, but it's not to be. I can't do ice.

I get the funny looks from family and friends with bicycling and motorcycling, but they accept the insanity and move on. It's the same with both types of bikes: I ride so I can keep riding. I know someday that it will end...then I'll buy a sports car!

  7. Kari,
I know what you're saying about being off the bike for extended periods. This weather isn't the best for riding.

That's funny about the sports car. You get kind of the same thrill and it's a little safer. A three wheeler might be nice too. :)
